Martha, a married businesswoman from Cork, discovered that her personal Facebook account was posting explicit messages to friends and colleagues. The account, set up in a version of her name, was using her Facebook picture and some of her personal details, but was not her account. She immediately sent a request to Facebook to take down the account, but waited a week for a reply stating that the matter would be investigated and action taken if appropriate. The potential damage to her reputation was a major concern and a friend told her about OSP PRM Services. She contacted us, supplied the relevant account information and within 48 hours we had identified the source of the account and secured the ‘evidence’ to send to Facebook. The account was taken down within 12 hours and the information passed on the appropriate authorities. Martha is currently considering pursuing a civil claim against the infringer, using the local OSP ECIJA Level 3 legal services.
“Like most people, I was shocked at the discovery of my identity having been stolen and thought that Facebook would respond immediately. It was only with the support of the OSP team and their professional services that I managed to get the situation corrected in a timely fashion. The potential damage to my business and personal reputation was huge. I also have learnt a valuable lesson about my use of Social Media, but it is frightening how it happened and how much stress was caused to me and my family. Fortunately, the OSP PRM team have guided me through the process of recovering my identity and advising me around my online security. Brilliant service and support – Thanks!”
